Ok, so in the last blog I know that I said I was hoping that things would settle down and I would be able to focus on school work and what not. However, that was to no avail. So, I have just decided to embrace all the crazy crap that the universe throws at me. I will just expect some silly thing to happen that will test my ability to succeed in law school like my dogs fighting with an opossum at midnight.
Yeah, that really happened! They were barking after I got out of the shower a few nights ago, so I let them out thinking they needed to potty. They ran directly into a bush and barked a crazy bark and I knew something was wrong. I then saw a poor opossum come out of the bushes and two of my dogs grabbed it and started shaking it. I felt so bad for it. It was trying so hard to get away. Since I had just gotten out of the tub, I was in my bath towel. At some point, I lost the bath towel and it got ridiculous for a few moments. (Sadly, this exact thing happened a few years ago. I should have learned to be dressed before letting my crew out). Ultimately, my mom came to protect to opossum while I rounded up my silly dogs. The opossum went on its way and we went in the house for first aid, which consisted of my dogs sitting there all happy with themselves while poured peroxide and Neosporin on their microscopic scratches.
ALSO, I got the FLU! I got a flu shot months ago like a reasonably prudent person (see what I did there, LOL). Who knew that it was going to be completely useless! I was so sick. I literally thought that I was going to die. I actually tried to go to school sick. The whole time I was telling myself, it’s just allergies. When I began dripping sweat and having the chills in class; I knew something was wrong. I brought myself to the doctor and sure enough, it was for sure, the flu. I missed days of school. I tried to do school work at home. The paper that I wrote for my property class while I was sick turned out being really, really great! I got amazing feedback from the professor and to this day, I do not remember writing the paper… I was that sick. It’s amazing because this teacher is really demanding. I thought for sure it was going to be bad. I recovered from the flu and still have a miserable, residual cough that continues to go on and on.
Anyway, the last thing that I want to say before I get to the fun stuff is that I got another internship! This one is with a national animal welfare organization. For this one, I will be able to work from home. So, I will get to do both of my internships this summer. I’ll be leaving for Denver at the end of May to start my internship there and in my spare time I will work on the other internship. I am beyond excited to be part of justice for the voiceless. I do have one more secret that is still in the works and will let everyone know as soon as I can.
Ok, so without further ado, here are some of my favorite vegan/vegetarian and cruelty-free products that I have tried recently. Just a little backstory on this. I have this habit that has become somewhat of a personal tradition. I just realized that I do this. Every spring, I tend to buy pajamas and bath/beauty products. It's just so much fun to have nice, new Pj's and cuddle in soft sheets after a nice bath! Most of this stuff is from my recent Spring haul.
The first one is from Trader Joe's. It's a Tea Tree Oil face wash. As a teenager, I had perfect skin. AS an adult, I oddly developed a little bit of adult acne. Since I am olive complected, the blemishes would hyper-pigment when they healed. I have a dermatologist who has helped with the blemishes and the dark spots; however, I wanted a product that would clean my face and also be animal friendly. I was using another of Trader Joe's face washes which was really good but I ended up getting this one because they were out of my regular one. I was kind of skeptical of Tea Tree Oil but I figured I'd give it a shot! This one has been really great! It has kept my face from being oily. I have no complaints with this product. I think this was around $5ish dollars.
I would purchase this after I run out!
I have a story about lavender scented conditioner. I was a huge Grey's Anatomy fan before Derek (main character) was killed off. I remember on one of the early episodes he told Meredith (main character) that her hair smelled like some kind of flower and she told him it was lavender from her conditioner. I always looked for just lavender conditioner after that and could never find it. I always found lavender and something else (lavender and vanilla, etc.). LOL. That's my cheesy story for all the Grey's fans out there. (:
The item in the top left corner is a bath jelly. It's basically a tub of jelly and you just take the wad of jelly out, and rub it on your body like soap. This one is in the scent Needles and Pines. It smells just like a Christmas tree. The smell lingers on my skin literally until my next bath!
The next thing is the purple, round bar. That is actually shampoo. Lush does their part to cut down on containers that end up in the landfills and oceans so when they can, they don't use containers. When a container is used it is biodegradable or recyclable. If you bring back so many containers, they give you a free face mask! Can't go wrong there. Anyway, you use the shampoo like soap. It suds really well and keeps my hair clean and smelling good all day. I was pleasantly surprised with this product.
The swirly, white and purple cone with the sprig of lavender sticking out is a bubble bar. It's basically bubble bath. I think it is supposed to turn the water a pretty purple color and moisturize your skin. I am saving it to use for after finals.
The brownish, triangular soap is in a flavor called Karma. It smells really good. It's one of those smells that you can't stop smelling. The scent from this also lingers on my skin until my next bath.
The little box on the bottom right is a box of "Toothy Tabs". I will admit that I don't like the way they smell. The flavor is lime, jasmine and Earl Grey. I do like the product though. They are little tabs that you nibble between your front teeth. You are supposed to wet your toothbrush and then brush. They make a lot of suds and I feel like my teeth stay fresher than if I had used regular toothpaste. I would get them again but just in a different flavor. They smell really weird.
The green, round bar is a conditioner bar. I am definitely disappointed with it. It smells good and all but it does not spread well in my hair no matter how much I scrub it... This one was a bust.
The brown, tear drop bar is a foot bar. It has grainy, really fine, sandy things in it for exfoliation. It's ok. I don't love it and I don't hate it.
The last thing is the blue, robot shaped bar. It's a bath bomb. It's lavender and blue chamomile scented. I am also saving this for after finals. It's supposed to fizz around in your bath water and make foam. I am looking forward to using it! It smells really good.
Ultimately, I really like Lush and their mission to fight animal testing and recycle. Their stuff is a relatively comparable in price to other stores that sell the same kinds of things.
Before I end this blog, I want to mention a few other things that I use. I use a wonderful, powder foundation by IT Cosmetics. It's called celebration foundation. I used to use a liquid and a powder but this is so full coverage; I only use the powder. I have been using it for a few years now. They are, thankfully cruelty-free. I recently have been trying out some of their other products from my Ipsy bags and have been loving them. It's worth it to check it out.
Lastly, I thought I would share this because it's been great! I added a few drops of lavender and peppermint essential oils to a small atomizer and then filled up the rest of it with water. I use it as a perfume, a room spray, a spray for the dogs, an air freshener, a car freshener, etc.I keep it with me all the time and use it everywhere! Try it! It's awesome!
Ok, I will end this blog post here. I have got to go to bed soon, I have to get up at 4:00 am. to schedule classes for my 2L year! I can't believe it! I'm going to be a 2L soon. That is, if I get past finals which start in 2 weeks. I am super nervous. This semester was horrible and I am happy it is almost over. This will be the last blog until after finals. I hope it is useful and everyone enjoys it. Keep me in your prayers. These next few weeks will be really hard! Talk to you guys after finals!
XOXO
Stay Fabulous,
LawGirl.
