First, let’s just talk about finals for a minute and get that out of the way. My exams were spread out over the course of two weeks which had its pros and cons. Being spread out like this was great because it gave me adequate time to study for each test. However, it was also horrible because the amount of stress that I was under for two weeks, half a month, was almost unbearable. By the end of the first week, I was over it all. I didn’t have any energy left to study but somehow I found it.
The days prior to each exam, all I did was study all day and then go to bed. I would get irritated with myself because nothing ever seemed to click for me. Even now, I don’t know how I got through any of them. I always feel like this for finals. The morning of each exam, I would arrive three to four hours in advance and continue studying. My friends would come and sit with me and study too. It was nice to have them around me. The weeks of studying alone at home, make you feel just that, alone and it was miserable. They were stressed too and it was just nice to have someone with me who was dealing with the same stress. It made me feel like I was part of the world again. No joke, law school is brutal!
Walking out of each exam, I was unsure of how I did, like usual. However, some of the grades are starting to roll in and so far I managed to get two A’s and a B+. I expect for the rest of my grades to be the same except for one of my classes, Business Entities. The class was about the different types of businesses and the law surrounding each. I am just not sure how I did. It was a lot to know. The class is a four credit class which just goes to show how much information it was to learn. (Each class is either two or three credits). I was exhausted and stressed out going into the test. I completely blanked out. I am in suspense waiting for my grades to be released, but I am miserable waiting for that grade. The grades are to be released on May 22, so until then, I will check the webpage for grades obsessively.
Ok, so now on to some of the fantastic things that have happened. The most exciting thing of all is that I was awarded a huge scholarship for the advancement of animal law. When I began gathering my materials for submission (letters of recommendation, my essay, transcript, etc.), I never thought that I would get it. I read about the accomplishments of past winners on the webpage of the scholarship granting organization and I never felt that I came close to the previous recipients. Additionally, many of the past recipients came from some of the top law schools in the country (think Harvard and Yale)... Totally not me… However, I ended up receiving one of the first place prizes. This is so wonderful for me because I am going to summer school this summer in another state to take some animal law classes and I had now idea how I was going to pay for it. My scholarship will pay the majority of my tuition and I am beyond blessed. They day I found out that I received the scholarship was the first day of my final exams. I totally walked into that final with a huge grin on my face. It was so hard to concentrate. Also, due to my receiving the scholarship, I made some really nice professional connections with animal lawyers in other states. I love meeting like minded professionals. I really learn from the things that they tell me and it gives me a good idea of how I should proceed in my new profession as an upcoming lawyer.
Another fantastic thing that I am currently working on was sent to me by multiple professors at school. They both know I am “that animal law girl” so when this opportunity came across their desk, they sent it to me. It is an animal law writing competition in which the first place prize is $1000 and publication of your article. The article is to be 15 pages and on any topic within animal law. I will be posting more about it as I work on it. I have just created an outline and began conducting research for my topic. Stay tuned for more on that!
Lastly, my internship starts tomorrow! I already have my first assignment and I am about to start looking at it so that I can hit the ground running tomorrow. I am working with a major animal law organization and I cannot wait to start! I am beyond excited! Also, I will be finalizing my travel plans this week for my time in summer school! I will be doing another travel diary again like I did last year when I went to Seattle and Canada. I am so looking forward to that as well. I’m scared about going but so happy that I get the opportunity.
Today was Mother’s Day! I got my mom a camera and took her to tour some gardens so that she could use it. She totally forgot to use it. After we toured the gardens we went to eat at a local italian restaurant. We sat out on the patio. It was nice to sit out in the fresh air. We just got back home now. I just took a bath and am about to get a few things picked up so that I can prepare for my internship tomorrow. I will be posting more about that and my other summer adventures. Stay tuned for more of my summer adventures. Happy summer you all.! Til next time…
XOXO
Stay Fabulous,
LawGirl.
