On a typical school day my alarm(s) go off at 5:00 a.m. I generally press snooze a few times. I have such a hard time getting up. My bed and my pups are so comfy, I hate to leave them. Plus, I am so exhausted from school and staying up so late. I eventually get up, look for clothes, do my make-up, brush my teeth, and then head to the kitchen for breakfast.
Once I get into the kitchen, I immediately put water boiling for coffee. If I had not made my lunch, I will make lunch and prepare snacks. Lunch usually consists of vegan sandwiches or mason jar salads. Once packed into my lunch bag, I try to go and put it right into my school bag so I won’t forget it. (I have forgotten it before and had nothing lol.) I go back to the kitchen, get my coffee and breakfast trail mix, and then head out.
After I load up my car with all my (heavy) books, I am off. On the way to school, I say morning prayers, drink my coffee and have my trail mix, and then either listen to the radio or listen to notes that I have recorded. Recently, I have been listening to podcasts. I am listening to one currently that I love so much. It’s about leading a plant powered life, going vegan, and living sustainably. The morning are usually peaceful before a hectic day and I really value this quiet quiet time.
Once I arrive at school, the hectic busy day starts. I unload everything and walk/run from the law school parking lot to school. I usually see my friends in the parking lot and we walk together. When I get into the building, I head to my locker if I need to put down some of my stuff. After that I go to my first class.
I am usually about thirty minutes to an hour early, so I sit in class and catch up on homework that I might not have gotten to over the weekend or refresh my memory on the cases/legal topics so that I am prepared for class. My first class is Conflict of Laws. After my class is over, I have about an hour break. My friend and I usually find an empty seminar room to sit and do more school work. When either of us have anything to go and do around the school (bathroom, registration, financial aid, etc.), the other will sit with all of our stuff so that we do not have to drag all that crap around. When whomever left comes back the other goes. We have a good system going! LOL.
After doing homework for the hour break, I head to my next class which is Evidence. After that class, I have another hour break. My friend and I usually head to an empty classroom where we sometimes meet up with other friends and we eat lunch and keep doing homework/preparing for the next class. After that break, the next class I have is State Civil Procedure. This class is in the moot court room which I hate because the pull-out desks are smaller than airplane trays and that is just not enough room for my computer, book, and notebook.
Once that class is over I usually only have about twenty to thirty minutes before the next class which is Environmental and Toxic Torts. In this class, I usually have a presentation every few classes so I generally sit there and get nervous. Ha! Only on Monday’s I have a night class after this Toxic Torts class. I have about a two hour break and by that time I am so tired. I usually find an empty seminar room to sit and doe more school work. The last class starts at 5:30. This class is Professional Responsibility. This class ends at 7:10. It’s extra long since it is only one day a week. After this class, it’s time to go home.
On the way home, I continue listening to whatever podcast I was listening to that morning and didn’t get to finish. Once I get home, I cook dinner, play with my pups, take a bath, and if I can stay awake long enough, I do some homework. Sometimes I am so tired that I got right to sleep.
Since, I don’t get a lot of homework done on Monday nights, I can catch up on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I only have my sports law class on those days. Once I get back from my Sports law class I generally take a nap, catch a yoga class, work on internship applications, and of course do all the outlining, note cards, reading that I need to catch up on.
Recently, I have spending a lot of time worrying and stressing about jobs and internships. I try to look for as many opportunities that I can so that I do not end up in some area of law that I do not love.
I also do want to add that sometimes, those hour breaks consist of me running around the school organizing/hosting events with the other group members for the student organization, Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. (Last week we had “Speak Out For Farmed Animals Week”-- more detail in the next blog). Also, I got a job with a bar prep company which I table at sometimes during those breaks as well.
Anyway, that’s my life in a nutshell. My days are long and really super duper busy! I spend a lot of time just being exhausted. I do really value this time in law school though. There will never be another time like this again! Pretty soon, I’ll me a legit lawyer and I’ll be handling legit legal affairs which terrifies me. Ok, I’ll end it here. Thank for reading. Talk to you guys soon.
XOXO
Stay Fabulous,
